Police: Father Took Sleeping Children, Lit House on Fire

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA - It was a terrifying wake-up call.

Not only was a Douglasville woman's house on fire, but as she rushed to get her 3-year-old daughter and her 1-year-old son out of their beds and safely out of the house; she realized her children were gone.

"The mother was the one who directed us," Lt. Glenn Daniel of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office tells FOX 5. "It was possibly the father who took the children."

Investigators paint a chilling picture. They accuse the father, Born Uallah Foster, of breaking into his ex-wife's home sometime around 4 a.m. Sunday. They say he took his sleeping children out of their beds, then put them in his ex-wife's car. Before he stole the car, investigators say Foster lit the garage on fire.

Investigators are not sure what Foster did over the next seven hours, but just after noon, a MARTA Police officer recognized the stolen car, from a state wide Levi's Call, Georgia's Amber Alert system, at MLK and Lowery Blvd in Atlanta. That's 22 miles away from the children's home.

Lt. Daniel says police "attempted to stop the vehicle, [and] when he did stop, a short foot chase ensued and they apprehended him."

Foster faces a number of charges including aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, burglary and criminal damage to property. He's being held in the Douglas County Jail.

Lt. Daniel says the Foster children were not injured and were safely returned to their mother.
