Do you need your kids to stop ignoring you? No worries. There's now an app for that. A Houston area mom is making news all around the world for a cell phone app she came up with called Ignore No More. Kids may not be too excited about this one.
Sharon Standifird is a wife with quite a background. “I have some Army experience, full-time and reserve. All together about 11 years I was in the Army,” explains Standifird who was also an elementary school teacher for six years. Now she is the creator of the new cell phone application Ignore No More.
“I have more experience making sandwiches or dinner than making apps,” Standifird laughs as she's making sandwiches in her Fulshear home but not having app developing experience isn't stopping this mother of two.
Ignore No More is an app that's been available in the Google Play store for one week. You can thank Standifird's two kids or her canine for the development. “All we needed was for one of my kids to let the dog out. We kept texting. We kept calling both of them and neither one of them answered,” Standifird explains. So she did something about it. “I looked at my husband. I said I'm so frustrated how about I come up with an app that locks their phone or shuts it down so they can't use it”. That is just what she did. For one year Standifird worked with a local developer and voila Ignore No More was born. It costs $1.99 per phone. Once you have the app all you have to do to disable your child's phone is touch the icon, press your kid's phone number, enter a password and his phone shuts down. “He can't text. He can't surf the internet and he can't play games,” explains Standifird.
The child can only call 911 and pre-programmed phone numbers such as to mom and dad. Once the kid calls back, the parent simply gives their child a password to unlock the phone. Thousands of people have already bought the app.
“It's been amazing and it's been a blessing,” says Standifird. Coming up with this when she had no idea about app development was only a small hurdle but this mom made it over mountains before, literally. “I've climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro with my husband and a good friend. I'm the type of person that likes a challenge. Give me a challenge and I'm going to go after it,” smiles Standifird.
Ignore No More is available on Android and is coming soon to Apple.
