Robbery at Westchester mall

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A brazen robbery at one of the tristate area's ritziest malls took place in front of dozens of shocked shoppers on Sunday.

It happened at The Westchester in White Plains at around 11:30 a.m.

One picture from Twitter showed the destruction after glass display cases were smashed  at the Tourneau store.

Three men entered the store, broke the cases with hammers, and grabbed luxury timepieces before running from an armed security guard.

Shoppers reportedly ducked for cover after seeing the guard struggle with one of the robbers and fall through a glass window.

The police SWAT team responded to reports of a man with a gun and quickly determined there was no active shooter or imminent danger. According to officials, the mall was not evacuated because there was no time to do so in the initial moments of the incident.

Mark Stanton, 56, of Hastings-on-Hudson, was taking a stroll in the mall when he saw cops converge on the scene at the high-end jeweler.

"All of a sudden you see these guys with AK-47s," he said, referring to the SWAT team. "That's a little frightening."

The store's security guard pulled his handgun and began to struggle with one of the robbers as the trio ran out of the store. All three managed to escape. It was unclear how much was stolen.

The store remained on lockdown for the remainder of the day and the showroom floor was littered with broken glass along with a black baseball cap that eyewitnesses said belonged to one of the robbers.

Police say they're investigating a large brawl that broke out at the end of a wedding reception held over the weekend at a suburban Buffalo country club. Officials tell local media that seven different police agencies were called in late Saturday to break up the fight at the Orchard Park Country Club. Officers say dozens of the approximately 200 guests were involved in the melee, which broke out after a member of the wedding party was tossed off the premises for inappropriate behavior.
