Stand-up paddleboarding in the Hudson River

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Hawaii, Mexico, California are all top destinations for the explosive new sport stand-up paddleboarding. How about paddleboarding in the Hudson River?

It is challenging, and not to mention just a tad unsanitary, perhaps? The Manhattan Kayak Company, located directly across from the Intrepid, offers lessons in both kayaking and paddleboarding. Instructor Jules told me I didn't have to get wet.

Of course there is a technique to it, but I forgot all about that once i got up. To me it was all about having fun, relaxing and taking in the sights at a leisurely pace.

The board is massive and surprisingly very stable. Balancing is easier than I thought.

If you're really good at it, they'll take you on a tour across the river to New Jersey and even all the way around the island of Manhattan.

Staying dry was a small victory, but it was good enough for me.
