ROY, Utah – A weekend fireworks show in Utah seemed to go off without a hitch until a grass fire was started by a firework that went off on the ground instead of the sky.

YouTube video of the incident was shared by Mike Roberts.

"The first few fireworks went off, no problems," said another witness, Joshua Simmons. "Then one went off and exploded in front of the tubes where they shoot them off from and started a fire."

FOX's Carly Figueroa reported that the crowd of spectators at the Roy Days firework show Saturday night seemed entertained by the small grass fire that sparked after some fireworks malfunctioned.

"The crowd was cheering, thought it was pretty cool, you know, whatever," Simmons said.

"No injuries," Roy City Fire Department Chief Jason Poulsen said. "They had actually cheers about it and had a good time, kind of got the spirits up a little bit and got a lot of good crowd cheering."

The fire department was already on scene and extinguished the flames quickly as the show continued.

Simmons was there with his family and says about 15 minutes into the show another firework malfunctioned and shot right into the crowd.

"It was a big enough explosion, it was probably 20-feet-wide, a big red half firework on the ground. I was thinking they might need to stop this if they can't get this under control."

Another one got close to a home and the residents there.

Roy City fire and EMS treated 10 minor injuries, like small burns, but no one was transported to the hospital.

"So, it's really good news for us, and we feel very lucky and fortunate," Poulsen said. " But, then again, it was a great show, and the crowd really liked it."

Simmons says he's never seen that many malfunctions in one firework show, and some people seemed frightened, but that it wouldn't keep him from coming back next year.

"I think they knew what they were doing, I just think maybe they had a bad batch, I'm not sure," Simmons said.
