EAST POINT, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a metro Atlanta man wanted on charges was shot and killed by a Fulton County sheriff's deputy after he drew a gun and fired at law enforcement officers.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and East Point police are investigating the fatal shooting Friday of 27-year-old Anthony Callaway.

East Point police spokesman Cliff Chandler says officers and Fulton County sheriff's deputies had surrounded a wooded area Friday where Callaway had fled after being spotted. The Atlanta fugitive squad was hunting Callaway, who faced aggravated assault charges.

Chandler says when officers found the suspect and tried to arrest him, Callaway drew a handgun and began firing before a deputy shot him.

GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang says no officers were injured.
