Call it the dance event of the summer! DancerPalooza is here! Think Coachella, but for dancers. The six-day festival is happening right now at the Long Beach Convention Center. It’s a first of its kind event, not only in Southern California, but in the entire country. For the first time ever, the industry’s top professionals are coming together to offer nearly a week of workshop classes and live performances, all in one place. There’s a dance class for all styles: ballet, tap, contemporary, hip hop, jazz funk, Broadway. And students of all ages are welcome!
Dance fans have traveled from across the country, and even from other parts of the world for the opportunity to be a part of DancerPalooza. Classes are taught by some of the leading choreographers in the business, including Mandy Moore, of “So You Think You Can Dance” fame. 18-year-old Paige Morgan Lapp, who is taking Moore’s contemporary dance intensive workshop, says it’s a dream come true, “I couldn’t ask for anything more than to work with such amazing choreographers. I’m just trying to live in the moment and get the most out of this week as I can”.
Each night there is a special live performance featuring some of today’s hottest professional dancers and ensembles. Friday is shopping day, as dozens of vendors fill the halls, with everything a dancer could ever want. DancerPalooza runs through Sunday, July 27, at the Long Beach Convention Center.
