Longtime Detroit mob boss Jack Tocco dies at 87

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - He's been called the longest serving mob boss in history. Jack Tocco has died at the age of 87.

He led Detroit's mafia for more than three decades.

In 1998 he was convicted on racketeering and conspiracy charges.

Tocco was at the helm in 1975 when Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa disappeared. While Tocco was never charged in Hoffa's disappearance, he was named a suspect.

In fact, just last year the FBI dug up a piece of farmland Tocco once owned in Oakland Township but found nothing.

"He's someone that most likely was the last person with firsthand knowledge. Even though I don't think anyone believes that he was there pulling the trigger, or there maybe when he died, but he definitely knew exactly what happened, who did it, how it went down, where it went down, and I think that goes to the grave with him," local mob historian Scott Burnstein tells Fox 2.

He remembers Tocco as someone who "made money, not headlines." He says Tocco is one of the few, if not the only, mafia godfather in our country's history with a college education.

Tocco grew up and lived in Grosse Pointe. He was an active member of the community, donating large amounts of money to charity and the Catholic church.

We get into the race for Governor and that open U.S. Senate seat with the two most political guys in Michigan. The chairmen of the state Republican and Democratic parties join us to talk issues and probably slinging a little mud. Plus, we'll talk to someone who's bringing a branch of the Satanic Temple to Detroit. What do they really believe in? (hint: it's not worshipping the devil)
