Kitten season increases need for homes

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

During the warm weather months, the number of kittens and cats brought to shelters is at its peak. 

One shelter, Bobbi & The Strays located in Glendale, Queens and Freeport, Long Island, is asking anyone interested in a pet to look now.

The no-kill shelter is currently housing several hundred animals with an influx of cats and kittens.

    Ten generations after the beloved, original TV collie Lassie hit the airwaves, a descendant, also named Lassie, is promoting a rescue mission. The collie is saving lives as an ambassador for “Save Them All,” encouraging adoption to save lives of shelter animals through Best Friends Animal Society. “We work with other animal rescues and shelters across the country to create no-kill programming,” said Jamie Rubin.

    Kent Brantly always wanted to be a medical missionary, and he took the work seriously, spending months treating a steady stream of patients with Ebola in Liberia. Now Brantly is himself a patient, fighting for his own survival in an isolation unit on the outskirts of Monrovia, Liberia, after contracting the deadly disease. The Texas-trained doctor says he is "terrified" of the disease progressing further.
