New York, NY -

A popular retail chain is under fire for a promotional giveaway.

The controversy is surrounding Urban Outfitters, which is based Philadelphia Naval Yard.

A story in The Consumerist is calling attention to a promotional product the store is reportedly giving away.

Its promotional pens shaped like hypodermic needles which read 'I love Harroin', New York City hair salon.

Many are upset with the promotion because of the devastating affect heroin has had on the community.

This is not the first time that Urban Outfitters has caused controversy with drug culture accessories.

In 2013, the retailer pulled a line of items that looked like prescription pill boxes, bottles and pads after anti-drug organizations and politicians from across the country protested.

According to the New York State Department of Health, heroin abuse has risen by 40 percent over the past decade.
