NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Grief counselors were on hand at a middle school in the Bronx Thursday after a 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death outside of the school.

A student is facing murder charges as an adult in the stabbing death of his classmate at I.S. 117 in the Mount Hope section of The Bronx.

Noel Estevez and Timothy Crump, both 14, got into a dispute outside of the school on Morris Avenue at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday when Estevez allegedly stabbed Crump several times in the stomach, according to police.

Estevez, of the Bronx, is in police custody. The weapon -- a kitchen knife -- was recovered at the scene.

Responders rushed Crump to Bronx Lebanon Hospital in critical condition, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are investigating what might have lead to the stabbing.

Unconfirmed reports indicate Estevez retaliated after he was beaten and robbed by Crump a few weeks ago. Investigators are looking into the possibility that Estevez was teased by Crump over his mother's recent arrest on drug charges.

A family friend, Marisol Perez, said he was repeatedly bullied for months. She also said he struggled with depression after his brother died last year. Estevez purportedly tried to kill himself, was admitted to the hospital in May, and only recently got out. Documents indicate the 14-year-old suffers from multiple mood disorders including depression and bipolar disorder.

Estevez faces second-degree murder charges and second-degree manslaughter charges.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
