6 teens charged in random assaults

Posted: Updated:

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - Six teenagers have been arrested for random attacks on adults who were punched in the head in New Britain, but police say there's no evidence that the assaults were part of a "knockout game."

City police didn't identify the teenagers because of juvenile offender laws. They ranged in age from 13 to 17 years old. Police say they expect to arrest a seventh juvenile.

Three adults told authorities the suspects sneaked up on them and hit them in the head in separate incidents earlier this month. All three victims were over 60 years old.

Police say surveillance video helped identify the suspects, who will be appearing in Juvenile Court.

The "knockout game" has been around for years and has been blamed for many injuries and some deaths.
