9 yr. old disabled child was dead for months

Posted: Updated:

Behind the walls of apartment 275, the unthinkable was discovered. A 9 year old child, who suffered from cerebral palsy, found dead in this home. Police believe she had been there for several months.

"She was found wrapped up in a blanket.. So we are waiting on the ME to perform an autopsy," says Sergeant Chris Hassig with the Houston police department

The gruesome discovery came to light when neighbors called police after noticing the child was nowhere to be found, and her wheelchair hadn't been moved from the patio area in quite some time. .

"It breaks people heart. It's really sad, for someone to do that.

Especially she has other little kids, they can be in danger too," says Yajira Amaya, friends with the mother.

But the child's mother, is nowhere to be found.

Sgt. Hassig adds, "I don't know if there was poor phone connection, but there was brief contact but she has been unable to be reached. And when I say brief, it's a matter of seconds."

Through neighbors we found out the mother's relatives live at a neighboring complex, so we went looking for her, but no one answered the door.

Neighbors who knew her well, say her kids would often play with other children who lived in the apartments.

"When amber would show up, was it for a party. No bbq's. I've seen here just a few times," says a neighbor.

Iris Perla, who lives right next to the apartment where the child's body was found, says she noticed something was wrong

"I noticed there were a lot of flies aroudn my home and I wasn't sure where they were coming from," says Perla, who lives next to the home where the child was found.

While HPD pieces together this unthinkable crime.

CPS confirms a 5 year old, who was also living in the home is now with relatives.
