Neighbors react to Tracy Morgan accident arrest

ATLANTA - The driver responsible for the deadly wreck involving comedian Tracy Morgan may have an explanation for the crash: lack of sleep.

According to a criminal complaint filed against the Kevin Roper, the sole suspect in the deadly crash involving comedian Tracy Morgan, Roper was sleep deprived. The complaint says the Wal-Mart truck driver hadn't slept in more than 24 hours.

Local authorities say the accident happened when Roper failed to slow down as he was approaching traffic. They say he attempted to overcorrect to avoid hitting a car when he struck the Mercedes Sprint limo bus carrying the comedian and a host of others.

FOX 5 spoke with some of Roper's neighbors in Jonesboro and they were all shocked by Roper's involvement in the crash. They both agree Roper shouldn't have been sleepy while operating a vehicle.

"He shouldn't have been driving all of those hours without any sleep. I think it's unsafe to get sleepy behind the wheel anyway," neighbor Clara Johnson said.

The same voice was echoed by another neighbor Barry Brabham, he said "I understand he didn't have the proper amount of sleep and for the body to perform you're going to have to have the proper amount of sleep."

Morgan is still in critical condition; he suffered a broken femur, broken nose and several broken ribs. He is expected to recover.

Roper is expected to appear in California State Court on Wednesday.
