Texans and Clowney have contract agreement

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The Houston Texans reached a contract agreement on Friday with outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Clowney's deal with the Texans is worth $22.272 million over four years and includes a $14.518 million signing bonus.

The contract includes a team option for a fifth year.

During his junior season at South Carolina Clowney had 11.5 tackles for loss and had three quarterback sacks.

The previous year Clowney won the Hendricks Award given to the nation's top collegiate defensive end.

In 2013 he was First-Team All American and was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

During the 2013 season Clowney set school records for sacks with and tackles for loss with 23.5.

While Clowney's contract was being negotiated he has taken part in all of the Texans off season workouts.

The team has signed all of its draft picks with the exception of guard Xavier Su'a-Filo, who was taken in the 2nd round out of UCLA.

The Texans have four remaining workouts as part of their organized team activities which will take place next week. The OTAs are voluntary.

The following week, the Texans will have a mandatory mini-camp.
