A horrible case of child abuse lands a Powder Springs couple behind bars.
Police arrested Nicholas and Natasha Vestrand after they say the father burned their son, 7, with a steam iron.
Nicholas Vestrand remains at the Cobb County Jail.
The boy’s grandmother told FOX 5 the young boy was playing with his father’s steam iron.
According to the arrest warrant, the father pressed the iron against his son’s bare skin leaving an approximately three inch burn, to teach the boy a lesson.
Days went by before the incident was reported by the grandmother. She says her daughter, Natasha Vestrand, feared for her life and her children and was too frightened to call the cops on her husband.
Powder Spring Police arrested the parents and charged Nicholas Vestrand with Battery, Cruelty to Children and Reckless Conduct. Natasha was charged with Reckless Conduct for knowingly leaving her children with her husband after the incident.
The grandmother tells FOX 5 Natasha never left her kids with their father after the abuse took place and left them with a family member.
Natasha Vestrand has bonded out of jail. Police say this is an active investigation.
