Sandy Springs bans smoking in parks

Posted: Updated:
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -  The City of Sandy Springs has banned smoking at city parks effective June 3.

During a recent city council meeting, members approved an amendment to it's Recreation and Parks smoking ordinance making it illegal to use tobacco products and e-cigarettes in city parks.

“Our parks are public spaces. Everyone, in particular our children, should have the opportunity to enjoy these outdoor, natural areas without worry of taking in second-hand smoke,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.

According to a release from the city, the ordinance prohibits the use of cigarettes, cigars and pipes; it also includes e-cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and roll-your-own tobacco products.
