Running back Arian Foster ready to tackle Texans new offense

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is thrilled with the new offensive system head coach Bill O'Brien has brought to the franchise.

"So far I really love it," Foster said. "It's very versatile.

"Coach O'Brien has expressed many times how he wants to use me a lot out of the backfield. That's one of my strengths as a running back. So I'm excited about it."

Foster, a three-time Pro Bowl running back, missed eight games last season because of injuries and was placed on injured reserve Nov. 12.

"It tears you up, but injuries are a part of the game," Foster said.

"You don't want them to happen. All you can do is prepare for them the best you can."

Foster has recovered from back surgery and worked hard to make sure he would be able to take part in the Texans offseason workouts.

He was at the team's voluntary minicamp for veterans and will be working with his teammates during the Texans' organized team activities which begin next week.

"Yea, I'm back," Foster said.

He's back and ready to tackle the Texans new offense.

"They have a lot of zone schemes, runs, every offense does," Foster said. "The way they want to use me out of the backfield as far as different alignments and matchups they want to have against linebackers and things like that."

Foster acknowledged his feelings for his former Texans coaches like former head coach Gary Kubiak, former offensive coordinator Rick Dennison and former running backs coach Chick Harris, but pointed out he is looking forward to working with O'Brien and his staff.

"They're good guys," Foster said. "They want to win. That's all you can ask.

"As far as Chick and Kub and Rick, I love them to death. They gave me my first shot. I talked to all of them when they left.

"It's part of the business and everybody understands that. They had to move on and so do we. I'm excited about the new coaching staff, but I'll always have a lot of love for them."

Foster spoke to FOX 26 Sports and the Houston Chronicle during an appearance he made on behalf of Bowlero Wednesday night in The Woodlands.
