Rice landed a verbal commitment from Kinkaid School quarterback J.T. Granato after mailing a hand-written note to his cat.
According to J.T.'s father John, of Yahoo Sports Radio and 1560AM, the Owls sent a letter to the Granato family addressed to 'Kitty Granato.'
Inside the letter was a note to J.T.'s cat, White Sox, that said "please help us to get J.T. to choose Rice.
"Paw me in case you have any questions."
According J.T.'s dad that note "sealed the deal."
John Granato said his son was also offered a scholarship by the University of Houston, while Maryland, Indiana, Southern Miss and Wake Forest "all showed a lot of interest."
While leading Kinkaid to the championship in the Southwest Prep Conference in 2013, J.T. Granato threw for 3394 yards and 42 touchdowns, with only 9 interceptions.
