Five structures damaged after apartment building fire spread

Posted: Updated:
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Fifteen people are without a place to live following a fire that spread from a converted apartment building to four other buildings, caused two structures to be destroyed, and left three others with damage.

Houston firefighters arrived to find heavy flames coming from a two-story home, which had been converted into a four-unit apartment building, on Anita Street near Live Oak Street in the historic Third Ward section of southeast Houston.

The converted apartment building was destroyed in the fire along with the neighboring one-story home. No one lived at the home where the fire started since it was under renovation, but one male resident escaped safely from the one-story home as it burning.

Ten people who lived in a neighboring four-unit apartment building are displaced after the fire spread to that structure. Houston firefighters prevented that building from being destroyed, but it was left with damage.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

Arson investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire.
