Police: Long Island dad drove drunk, crashed with tots in car

Posted: Updated:

HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a father drunkenly crashed his pickup truck on Long Island with his infant and toddler in the truck.

The 42-year-old man was awaiting arraignment Sunday after the wreck around 8 p.m. Saturday in Huntington Station. The 1- and 2-year-old children weren't hurt. They're in their mother's care.

No telephone number for the family could immediately be found.

The Suffolk County Police Department says the man was driving west on the shoulder of Jericho Turnpike when he hit a minivan parked by a pizzeria.

He was arrested on charges including an aggravated DWI offense that involves driving drunk with a passenger under 16. It's called Leandra's Law, after an 11-year-old girl killed when a woman drunkenly drove a station wagon full of children into a Manhattan highway wreck.
