Most every man would agree, there's nothing like a good haircut and clean shave, the old fashioned kind from an old-school barber. There's a new shop that offers just that, and more.

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Ruth Alvarez is in the hospital undergoing a lifesaving surgery Wednesday.

She was behind bars for using a fake ID to get a job, but her attorney reached a deal for her early release

Alvarez's case is like so many others, a woman from Mexico in Phoenix undocumented facing deportation. But what made this case different: she was facing a life threatening illness

One week ago Ruth Alvarez walked out of the Estrella Jail and into the joyous arms of her loved ones.

On Wednesday, she was in Maricopa Medical Center, undergoing breast cancer surgery.

"My mom is doing good she seemed a little bit scared before going into surgery, but I could tell she was hopeful and definitely holding onto faith, and she will be fine," said Indira Alvarado.

It has been a long journey for Ruth Alvarez, an undocumented 37 year old mother of two. She was arrested last September for using someone else's name to work.

Immigration & Customs Enforcement let her out of custody to get chemotherapy a year ago, county prosecutors picked her case back up this month, putting Ruth in jail for seventeen days while she was dealing with stage three breast cancer.

"If you don't have the support of nobody and you are lonely in the bed and tired all the time with handcuffs on I don't think that will help," said Alvarez.

That was a week and a half ago. After that, the Maricopa County Attorney offered a plea deal, and Ruth accepted: a misdemeanor in return for one year of probation.

"My first thing is thank god. It is the main thing in my life and the only one who can make everything possible.,' said Alvarez.

She is now recovering in the hospital, hoping to be cancer free.
