PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Highway Patrol officers closed eastbound Interstate 10 at Chandler Boulevard after a fatal hit and run crash on Monday night.

Emergency crews responded to the collision after 8:20 p.m. Monday for a report of a car vs pedestrian accident.

Investigators say a man and a woman were driving in a pickup merging onto I-10 when they swerved around a slower car. During the swerve, the woman was ejected from the truck and ran-over by another vehicle which fled the scene.

The woman was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

Rescue crews pronounced her dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck the woman was riding in also had some sort of injury.

Authorities are looking for the vehicle that hit the woman and fled the scene.

Eastbound traffic was closed at Ray Road while authorities investigated.
