Braves fall to Mets 4-3 after a 14 inning battle

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK - The New York Mets avoided a series sweep by the Atlanta Braves after a 14 inning battle Sunday afternoon. The Mets won after a 14th inning walk-off sacrifice fly by Curtis Granderson ended the game 4-3.

The Braves gave up a few runs early but used a three run 5th inning to go on top of the Mets. The Mets then scored a run in the 6th inning to tie the game at three. The score would remain tied until the 14th inning when Braves relief pitcher Gus Schlosser took the mound for his fourth straight inning.

Schlosser then walked the first batter and threw a wild pitch to put runners at second and third. Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson then delivered a sacrifice fly that would score the lead runner to win the game.

Braves starting pitcher David Hale pitched six innings giving up six hits, two earned runs, and struck out five batters in the no-decision. Gus Schlosser was credited with the loss. The Braves also committed a season high of three errors.

The Braves will travel home next to take on the Miami Marlins Monday night in a three game series. The Marlins are currently 9-10 and are in fourth place in the NL East. Julio Teheran is projected to start game one of the series. Teheran is 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA this season.
