Heights park making a comeback after a portion was bulldozed by mistake

Posted: Updated:

One of the oldest parks in the Heights is making a comeback after a bulldozer levels a section of it.

It happened last summer during construction of some townhomes in Woodlands Park.

The developer says a contractor did it by mistake.

A mistake that ended up being costly.  The "friends of Woodland Park" took the matter to City Hall and the city fined the developer $300,000.

One of the activists says this was about more than just trees.

The organization is hosting a Centennial celebration for the park on Saturday, April 19.

The event starts at 1pm and will go until 2:30 PM.   Because parking is an issue, people are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to the event.

Mayor Annise Parker is expected to attend.
