ATLANTA, Ga. -

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves 1-0 and avoided a series sweep by the Braves.

Braves Pitcher Alex Wood and Phillies Pitcher AJ Burnett were locked into a pitcher's duel after neither pitcher gave up a run going into the eighth inning. Wood's shutout was broken up after a Ben Revere single drove in the go-ahead run for the Phillies.

The Braves failed to tie up the score after Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon struck out two Braves batters to end the game.

Alex Wood pitched 8 innings while giving up eight hits, one earned run and striking out 7 batters.

The Braves will travel to New York Friday to take on division rival New York Mets.
