NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports center Josh Powell, who has been playing in the Philippines, will sign with the Houston Rockets on Tuesday pending successful completion of his physical.
Sources with knowledge of the situation said Powell received his letter of clearance on Monday from FIBA, world governing body for basketball, allowing him to leave his team (Ginebra) in the Philippines and sign with Houston
Powell has played with the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Lakers and most recently the Atlanta Hawks during the 2010-11 season.
Powell was not taken in the 2003 NBA Draft after playing at North Carolina State.
He began his professional career in Russia and has played overseas for the past three years.
The Rockets cleared a spot for Powell on their roster by waiving center Dexter Pittman who they signed last week.
By signing prior to the Wednesday deadline Powell is eligible to play for the Rockets in the playoffs.
