STAFFORD, Va. -

A Stafford County woman is shopping for a new car after thieves stole three of the four doors off her SUV. And that's not all. They also took the airbag out of the steering wheel.

The damage was so extensive, the insurance company totaled the car.

These thieves were so good that they dismantled the driver’s side door and both passenger side doors without attracting any attention.

They came in the middle of the night and disabled the car’s alarm before getting to work.

Jackie, the owner of the car who asked that we not use her last name, says she left the house to head to work last Wednesday and immediately noticed the driver’s side door gone. She called 911 before noticing the doors on the passenger side were gone as well.

“The police (officer who) came in the morning said he had never seen nothing like that,” she said. “He said they must have been pros. They tried to find fingerprints, but there were no fingerprints left.”

Jackie says she lives on a quiet street in the Austin Ridge section of the county and none of her neighbors heard a thing.

Investigators discovered the thieves opened the hood and disconnected the battery before getting to the doors. They also took the airbag from the steering wheel.

The insurance company told Jackie her car is a total loss.

"People don't know how hard we work to get our stuff, and then someone comes and takes it out of your driveway, there is no security anymore,” said Jackie. “It's just very, very sad to see this happen.”

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office says Jackie’s car was one of five targeted by thieves the same night, but they only took airbags from the other cars.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau says airbags retail from a reputable dealer for about a thousand dollars, but on the black market, the prices range from $50 to $200.
