NJ Muslim group to appeal ruling on NYPD spying

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A group of Muslims from New Jersey is appealing a federal judge's dismissal of a lawsuit against the New York City Police Department over its surveillance of Muslims.

Attorneys with Muslim Advocates and the Center for Constitutional Rights filed a notice of appeal Friday over the dismissal of a 2012 lawsuit brought by Muslim individuals and groups. They alleged the NYPD's surveillance of their activities was unconstitutional because it was based on religion, national origin and race.

U.S. District Judge William Martini ruled last month that the NYPD's activities were part of a lawful effort to prevent terrorism. He says the suit had been filed in reaction to Associated Press stories revealing the NYPD's secret activities.

A spokesman for New York City's Law Department declined to comment on the appeal.

Only eight states do not have a statute of limitations on rape. Texas isn't one of them but one lawmaker hopes to change that. Here in Texas the statute of limitations on rape is ten years, with exceptions such as, there is no time limit to prosecute someone who sexually assaults a child. After that 10 years, in most rape cases, it doesn't matter what evidence comes up that perpetrator can't be tried for the crime but here in Texas could that soon change?"Rapists have been left on our streets ...
