Highway 169 reopens after triple fatal head-on crash

ST. PETER, Minn. (KMSP) -

Highway 169 was closed for several hours on Sunday between St. Peter and Mankato after a fatal crash that took the lives of at least three people, including a mother, her young daughter, and a South Dakota man.

At least two vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred at 1 p.m. after one of the vehicles crossed the center median, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

A witness told Fox 9 News as many as 6 people were involved, including young children. By Sunday night, officials had confirmed three people had died.

THE VICTIMS

By 8 p.m. Sunday, the Minnesota State Patrol had identified all victims involved in crash. Three were killed, a young girl was seriously injured and two others sustained non life-threatening injuries.

- 36-year-old Lindi Paul, of St. Peter (deceased)
- 5-year-old Emma Paul, of St. Peter (deceased)
- 65-year-old Michael Oboyle (deceased)
- 65-year-old Kathryn Oboyle (non life-threatening injury)
- 8-year-old Owen Oboyle (non life-threatening injury)
- 4-year-old Annabelle Oboyle (serious injury)

THE CRASH

Preliminary information from the Minnesota State Patrol indicates that Lindi Paul was driving a 2010 Dodge Caliber south on Highway 169 before she lost control. Her SUV crossed into the northbound lanes and collided with a 2010 Ford F150 driven by 65-year-old Michael Oboyle. 

It is not yet known what caused the crash; however, officials did confirm that alcohol was not detected on either driver.

Highway 169 was reopened at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
