Operation Lucky Charm: MCSO cracks on illegal 'compassion clubs'
The Maricopa County Sheriff's office is cracking down on illegal marijuana clubs.
39 people were arrested during "Operation Lucky Charm," which began on March 3rd and resulted in the seizure of 1,000 pounds of pot. The marijuana has a street value of over $700,000.
Deputies also seized several baked goods containing pot brownies and cookies, guns, nearly $230,000 in cash, eight vehicles and a house in Mesa. Authorities say detectives also found and seized an ATM which contained marijuana.
Because of Arizona's medical marijuana law, business owners can operate what's known as compassion clubs -- places where members can obtain marijuana with a prescription.
The clubs busted by the sheriff were not registered or licensed with the Department of Health.
The operation also targeted dealers working in skate parks and known drug trafficking areas.
