"They just moved in," one neighbor said. "I had never seen them before."
The family with 4 kids ages 4 to 16 weren't the only things new to the neighborhood.
Residents say so was the murder and all the activity that followed.
"Very safe neighborhood," another neighbor added. "Nothing like that ever happens here, ever."
What Precinct 4 Constable deputies say they found here upon arrival would send shivers down any parents back.
"They found that the homeowner had discovered a 17-year-old male in his daughter's bedroom," said Sergeant Ben Bell with the Harris County Sheriff's Department. "There was some sort of altercation and the father shot the male one time."
It was the man's 4-year-old son deputies say who first noticed the stranger in the house.
After the father's deadly shot his 16-year-old daughter, deputies say admitted she snuck her 17-year-old boyfriend into the house.
"We don't know if the father knew him or not," Bell said.
While a grand jury will ultimately decide the father's fate, prosecutor Warren Diepraam believes any criminal charges in this case are highly unlikely.
"What was going on in the person's mind at the time of the shooting what they found out after the fact isn't going to matter awhole bunch," Diepraam said. "Their looking at what he was thinking when he made the decision to shoot."
This man told us he doesn't have kids.
Here's his take on what transpired nearby.
"Doesn't sound like it had to end that way at all," the man said. "Seems like something that could have been talked about with his daughter, that's shocking."
"Initial reaction is you just feel terrible for the families," Ryan Finnin said.
Finnin also lives nearby and has a son of his own.
"It's something that happens in a matter of moments so it's hard to weigh in heavily because you don't know whats going through everybody's head at that point and time," Finnin said.
One thing is certain.
The parents of both teenagers will never be the same.
"Both of these families lives have changed forever," Finnin said. "That's a hard pill to swallow.,"
