Pitbulls attack jogger

Posted: Updated:

She's described by her loved ones as a caring mother, of two, whose smile always tends to shine a positive light on even the worst of situations. She's a lover of marathons and jogging and that's what Monica Garza was doing on March the 5th at Southbelt hike and bike trails, when her life changed in a matter of seconds.

"One had her by the arms another by the leg, pulling tearing, biting," says Monica's dad, Jeff Mack

Raging pitbulls, roaming lose got a hold of this young woman and wouldn't let her go.

"Attacked her and drug her down and viciously mauled her," adds her dad.

With 52 lacerations and having undergone numerous surgeries, this is Monica today. Still smiling but now from a hospital bed, scard for live, not only physically but emotionally.

The incident, which happened borderline city of Houston and Harris county, has generated much attention especially from councilmembers who have seen the story repeat itself one too many times in their districts.

"A constituent of mine in district I was attacked and killed, back on the 2nd week of January," says councilmember Robert Gallegos who represents District I. "

"There has to be some consequences otherwise you will have everyone taking their dogs to the park and letting them run lose "

"Enhance the penalties for people who allow these dogs to run around and attack individuals. Enough is enough," comments Dwight Boykins who represents District D, where the incident happened.

Councilmembers Boykins along with Gallegos are firm supporters of creating an ordinance to sanction dog owners who allow their pets to roam Loose.

" I believe governing authorities need to do something to pass legislation or some type of ordinance to control these animals" says Monica's dad.

According to court documents, one of the two attacking pitbulls, that left monica in critical condition, belonged to Fabiola Villanueva who lives not too far from the trail. We tried talking to her but no one would answer the door.

Mean while, this mother and daughter has a long fight before her, but her father tells us she's a fighter, and is determined to do what she loves the most, and that's run in her local park…
