PHOENIX (KSAZ) -
A 26-year-old Phoenix man is dead after he attacked two Phoenix Police officers responding to a domestic violence call at his house.
Officers responded to the home near 51st Street and Thomas Thursday evening and met with the victim's father.
The father described his son as acting erratic -- he had jumped naked into the neighbor's back yard and then went back inside his home to take a shower.
The sergeant went inside to talk with the man, identified as Raul Altimirano Suarez Jr., whom police say had a crazed look in his eyes. He tried to talk with Suarez and told him to get out of the shower so they could get him some help.
Police say Suarez tried to grab the sergeant's gun and tazer, but the sergeant swatted his hand away.
Another officer responded and they tried to take Suarez into custody. Investigators say he fought and kicked both officers several times.
Suarez allegedly told both officers he was "Satan" and "Jesus Christ," and that he was "going to kill them." He also said, "You might as well shoot me now."
Both officers tried to taze Suarez but neither one stopped him. Suarez continued fighting and advanced on the sergeant who was backed into a corner.
The sergeant fearing further injury drew his weapon and fired once striking and killing Suarez.
Both officers were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital.
Detectives learned that Suarez was found in the back yard of his neighbor's house, naked and acting strangely, on Wednesday.
An internal and criminal investigation are underway into the actions of the sergeant, something that is standard in an officer involved shooting.
