Maria Menounos: I Was Looking For A New Challenge

A new docu-series takes viewers inside the mind and heart of TV personality Maria Menounos as she strives to have it all in the new half-hour "Chasing Maria Menounos".  Maria shares her personal life for the first time as she challenges expectations and makes untraditional choices while surrounded by tradition.

"Chasing Maria Menounos" is an emotional, comedic journey that will introduce Oxygen viewers to a modern young woman who is at a crossroad in her life and trying to decide what's next," said Rod Aissa, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and Development, Oxygen Media. "Maria is ambitious, unconventional and incredibly funny, you just can't help but fall in love with her."

Maria may be best known as the upbeat host of "Extra," traveling the world interviewing celebrities and guest starring on television. But if you dig a little deeper you'll find that Maria is a fearless, confident modern woman who is living her life as she designed it, confronting the obstacles head-on that surround her eclectic career and home life. Maria came from very humble beginnings but never stopped chasing her dreams. Now she lives with her boyfriend of 15 years, Keven, and traditional Greek immigrant parents, Costas and Litsa, who are demanding she at last get married and have children. Though she respects her devoted family and boyfriend's opinions, she tends to make decisions with or without their approval. As Maria turns 35, she contemplates whether she can support her parents and the friends who depend on her, while building a family with Keven and having some fun along the way.

1) She is an American actress, journalist, television presenter and occasional professional wrestler. She is known in the United States for her appearances as a correspondent for Today, Access Hollywood, Extra, and abroad for co-hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens, Greece.

2) Later Menounos attended Boston's Emerson College where she participated in the now award winning organization, Emerson Independent Video. She graduated from Emerson in 2000. During her senior year, she was hired as a reporter for Channel One News. Her work for Channel One's 10-minute segments included traveling to El Salvador to report on the earthquake of 2001, interviewing North Atlantic Treaty Organization aircrew members aboard an AWACS while flying a combat air patrol mission during the military alliance's Operation Eagle Assist and interviewing President George W. Bush.

3) Entertainment Tonight hired Menounos as a correspondent in 2002, where she reported on movies, music and fashion. ET executives offered her a hosting gig for ET on MTV and VH1; she left the program in 2005 to focus on her acting career, though she would eventually join rival program Access Hollywood later that Fall as a special correspondent. She went on to co-host a few episodes of the Today show in the late summer and fall of 2006 as well as in April 2007. In 2003, Menounos appeared on the November 30 episode of Punk'd where she was one of many celebrities caught in the awkward and embarrassing "Red Carpet Interviews."
