Fake restaurants listed on Seamless

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The GrubHub Seamless website advertises that you can "order food delivery from your favorite restaurant."   But the website was deceived and so were customers.

TribecaCitizen.com uncovered that Lilly's Chinese and Japanese Restaurant on the Lower East Side created two phony restaurants with addresses and menus but all of the food that was ordered was actually coming out of Lilly's kitchen.

One of the fake restaurants was Joe's Noodles listed at 121 Reade Street, which has no "Joe's Noodles" -- it's an apartment building. The other fake eatery is AAA Asian Food at 325 Broadway, which is an office building, not a restaurant. All of this raises the question that if Lilly's duped customers and GrubHub Seamless, are other restaurants doing it?

GrubHub Seamless issued a statement saying it "takes measures and has protocols in place to ensure the authenticity of restaurants represented on our services including visiting restaurants in person to confirm they are legitimate establishments. In this rare occurrence, a few restaurants were not detected by our teams. We are taking the opportunity to review and strengthen these protections and encourage diners to report inaccuracies."

GrubHub Seamless also says it removed the fake restaurants from its website as soon as it was alerted about them.

There were 16 deaths for all of 2013. Plans call for erecting a 9-foot fence to replace the current railing to make jumping from the bridge difficult.
