Sterling Heights woman wins free divorce on Valentine's Day

(WJBK) -

Charlotte Cain of Sterling Heights says she didn't get the typical gift you'd expect on Valentines Day, but she did get what she's been waiting for the longest.

Cain got a divorce.

She won a contest granting her a free divorce from the Law Offices of Walter H. Bentley III in Southfield.

Cain entered the contest a while ago. Each contestant submitted his or her story about why they should get a free divorce.

Cain says she was laid off and did not have the funds to pay for a divorce.

"I guess it would be weird, because you would think of Valentine's Day as people trying to come together and celebrate their union, but mine is, I'm celebrating basically a union that has [gone] on far too long finally being finalized," Cain tells FOX 2's Andrea Isom.

"Mr. Bentley is my cupid, definitely," she smiles.
