NW Harris County Storage Theft

Posted: Updated:

When Brenda and Mike Swafford went to check on the 4 storage units they rent at Champion Self Storage in northwest Harris County, they found broken locks littering the ground and many storage unit doors damaged or even left open. "I'm so stressed out about it I didn't know what to do, but just talking about it I want to cry," said Brenda Swafford.

The couple believes thousands of dollars worth of their belongings was stolen. "Air compressor, fishing rods, flat screen TV's, a lot of tools, they took everything," said Mike Swafford.

But the most precious possession of the Swafford's are family pictures of their murdered daughter, Lynn, which are now gone. "She was 23 years old and they can have my other stuff, just give me my pictures back. That's all I have and I want them back," said a tearful Brenda.

But they also want answers. They claim the property, which houses about one hundred storage units, has been abandoned and the power turned off. They also say in the 3 months they've been tenants the front gates have never been closed. Now they fear the thieves will come back for more.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the initial burglary report is "still in progress" and they are investigating.

Fox 26 attempted to contact Champion Self Storage but have not heard back.
