Police in Chisago County are investigating a report of an armed robbery in which the suspect allegedly used a snowmobile as the getaway vehicle.
Police arrived at Tim's Country Cupboard on Monday just after 7:30 p.m. and began searching for a suspect who was reportedly wearing a tan jacket, red ski mask, dark snowmobile pants and boots who escaped by driving westbound on a red snowmobile, possibly a 90s model.
A store employee said the man walked to the register, pointed a revolver at the cashier and handed him a plastic bag while demanding he empty the cash register. The suspect then reportedly left the store and sped off on the snowmobile, and even the sheriff admits that was an odd choice.
Even so, the people working in the store gave a good description of the sled and noted it seemed to have a very loud mufflers.
Additionally, since few people were out at the time, police were able to follow the fresh track for about a mile before it blended in with others, but it still gave them a direction. Investigators believe the suspect fled to a house in a Anoka County after police found stolen snowmobiles and a stolen trailer. A search of the home turned up other evidence connected to the crime as well.
No arrests have been made thus far, but Sheriff Rick Duncan confirmed they do have three people they hope to speak with while the investigation continues even though none are considered suspects.
