Car Break-In Spree in Two Montgomery County Towns

Posted: Updated:
UPPER GWYNEDD, Pa. -

"They're in and out in seconds."

Upper Gwynedd Police say that the thieves struck quickly, targeting 15 cars on seven different streets across the township. Most of these cars were unlocked.

"Some were on the street, the majority are in the driveway. They just walk up, pull the handle, see what they can see and go," Deputy Chief David Poirier told FOX 29 on Wednesday.

The theft spree started early Monday morning. The thieves were back in action again early Tuesday. Investigators say that these bandits are after cash and high tech devices.

"They're just going in and taking things in plain sight, laptops, I-pods, GPSs, wallets, people leave their purses in these cars," Chief Poirier added.

"They hit just about every house going down the street," one resident said.

The victims of this crime spree were scattered across the area. In at least one case, they broke a window to gain entry to the car.

"Took her pocketbook, which had credit cards, her check book, social security card, everything in there," said Jack Rice after learning that his neighbor's daughter had been one of the victims..

Anthony Hill says the break-in crew walked up his driveway and went into his truck, but for some reason they didn't take a thing.

"From what I understand, they're looking for loose change, money or whatever," he said.

Several car owners were robbed on Beth Drive. Betsy Marple has lived here for years. She hopes her neighbors will keep an eye out for anything suspicious.

"Use spotlights, let your neighbors know when you're not there and just be really aware of your surroundings," she said.

Chief Poirier had some simple advice on how to avoid these crimes

"Lock your cars," he said.

Police have no information on the suspect or suspects at this point. They did take some fingerprints from cars.

Investigators think this could be the same group of thieves that struck four times just a few towns away in Worcester Tuesday morning. The Pennsylvania State Police are now investigating.
