DeKalb County police seize more than $128M of illegal drugs

Posted: Updated:

DeKalb County police say they've seized more than $128 million worth of illegal drugs in the past year.

Police Chief Cedric Alexander made the announcement during a news conference on Friday afternoon.

"We have not seen a seizure over a one year period this huge in probably the last five or six years," said Alexander.

The seizures included 6,000 pounds of marijuana; 565 kilograms of powdered cocaine, 302 kilograms of methamphetamine and $3.4 million in cash.

Alexander said a 30-person unit, which was responsible for the seizures, worked to persecute people they thought were transporting drugs into the community with the intent to distribute.

Authorities also arrested 989 people.

All of the drugs were intercepted in DeKalb County with information from tips and patrolling.

Although Alexander is proud of the seizures, he says his department will "stay in this fight and we're going to do everything we can in this county to keep this county safe."
