Woman found in suitcase at Arizona border crossing

Posted: Updated:

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a smuggling attempt at the U.S.-Mexico border was thwarted when inspectors found a woman from Thailand inside a suitcase.

Customs and Border Protection agents discovered the 48-year-old woman while inspecting a Honda SUV entering the United States on Dec. 30. in Nogales, Ariz.

She was hidden under clothing in the large suitcase in the back of the vehicle driven by a 56-year-old Phoenix man.

Neither person's name was released.

Customs and Border Protection spokesman Victor Brabble says he cannot release any information on the two people because the case is now being handled by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

ICE spokeswoman Amber Cargile says nobody so far is charged in the case but that she cannot immediately release any other information.
