Young man drinks dirty water to raise awareness

Posted: Updated:

A global water crisis is being tackled by a young Houston-area resident by drinking dirty water.

There are 780 million people without clean water which is about 2.5 times the population of the US.

It's a statistic one 26 year-old is hoping to bring down, and he's dedicating his life to do it.

"This is actually the water that they pick up from the ground and drink. They give it to their one month old and their one year old. Unfortunately people die from this," said Krish Himmatramka, who is trying to bring awareness to the issue by taking matters into his own body.

"It is pretty dirty. It has some rocks from my backyard. You can see some leaves. I picked up some dirt and mixed it in with water. Clean water mixed in with dirt and soil to simulate what people have to drink in developing countries many times," said Himmatramka.

He drank the water, and we asked him what it tastes like.

"How does it look? It tastes 5 times worse. I'll be okay."

Watching him drink the stuff caught the attention of many at Memorial Park, and that's the point.

It forced people to learn about the issue.

Spending his weekends raising awareness, he dedicates the rest of his time to his job.

"I made a ring company called Do Amore rings, and every time we sell a ring, we give two people in a developing country clean water for life…Now is the time more than ever to be cautious about the amount of water we are using. It really is the most valuable resource we have when you think about it-clean drinking water."
