Dash hire highly-acclaimed coach from Notre Dame to be their first head coach

FOX 26 Sports has learned the expansion Houston Dash, of the National Women's Soccer League, have hired Notre Dame Women's soccer coach Randy Waldrum to be their first head coach.

Sources told FOX 26 Waldrum agreed to a three-year contract with the Dash.

Waldrum has been one of the most successful coaches in women's collegiate soccer.

He led Notre Dame to national championships in 2004 and 2010.

In 15 years with the Fighting Irish Waldrum compiled a record of 292-68-17.

Waldrum has led the Irish to 12 Big East regular-season titles and seven Big East Championship titles.

In addition to winning a pair of national championships at Notre Dame, Waldrum's teams have also been national runner-ups three times.

A native of Irving, Texas, Waldrum is no stranger to starting programs from scratch.

He began the women's soccer program at Baylor in 1995, and three years later led the Bears to the Big 12 title, the school's first Big 12 championship
in any sport.

According to the Notre Dame web site Waldrum has held a position on the U.S. National Team coaching staff since 1992.
