PHOENIX -

As we get closer to New Year's Eve, police are reminding people to not drink and drive.

But sadly some people will. That's why the family of a 19-year-old valley man killed by a suspected drunk driver earlier in December want to share his story in hopes of saving someone else's life.

Daniel Howard was killed in a car crash on Dec. 13 and Phoenix police say a drunk driver is to blame.

Howard was the passenger in the car police say the drunk driver slammed into.

Daniel's car flipped and crashed into a brick wall and he died later at the hospital.

The family laid Daniel to rest on Saturday. They say he was a kind and loving young man.

He just got his drivers permit and elected to be an organ donor.

They say his generosity lives on--his organs already helping save other lives.

But still, their loss is unimaginable and his mother says their is no excuse for drinking and driving.

She has a message for those who do:

"Look at it as if it was your child that you ran over. Your child that you killed because you made a choice to go out there and drink and drive. You made a choice to do this and you killed somebody's baby. What if it was your baby that was laying the street in a mangled car and they got to get this child out because you want to go around drunk?" said Ollie Johnson, Daniel Howard's mother.

The suspect in the crash is 25-year-old Gustavo Lopez. He faces second degree murder charges.
