NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Detectives arrested a kennel attendant for allegedly tossing a dog into a commercial trash bin on Long Island.
Authorities on Friday charged Michael Papini, 30, of Lindenhurst, with felony aggravated animal cruelty, animal abandonment, and other related charges, according to the The Suffolk County SPCA. Papini works at the Town of Islip Animal Shelter.
A man rummaging through the bin found the dog and called police.
The SPCA examined security camera footage from the gas station that showed a black SUV pulling up to the bin at about 7:45 a.m. Monday, a man getting out, and then throwing a black garbage bag into the bin, Chief Gross said. That footage helped lead detectives to Papini, who was expected to be held overnight and arraigned on Saturday.
The abandoned dog was treated an an animal hospital and then taken to a shelter.
