The gifts are open and shoppers will again hit the stores tomorrow because the big post Christmas sales are just a few hours away and for gift returns.
Get moving. Most stores extend return policies for Christmas gifts, but some don't wait long to close the window on returns.
Here are some tips for returning gifts.
Leave packaging and tags intact if possible. It helps to have the receipt.
If you got a gift card:
Keep the receipt. If it wasn't included with the gift card, ask the giver to hang onto it just in case something goes wrong.
Untangling gift card problems can be really hard without a receipt.
Plan to use it as soon as possible. Every year after Christmas, there are a rash of store and restaurant closings, and gift-card holders rarely get their money back. Beyond that, people often forget about cards until they've lost value to fees.
If you're expecting a rebate:
Don't be too patient. Check on your rebate's progress before the deadline expires so you have time to deal with problems.
