NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Police have arrested four men in connection with a murder and carjacking at The Mall at Short Hills.

Last weekend, Hoboken attorney Dustin Friedland was killed having just finished holiday shopping with his wife.

The men suspected of his murder spent nearly a week at large, before police tracked them down.

Police arrested 29 year-old Hanif Thompson, 31 year-old Karif Ford, 32 year-old Besim Henry and 35 year-old Kevin Roberts, all from Newark.

The Essex County prosecutor's office announced their arrests Saturday saying the crime itself seems to have been motivated by the fact that the suspects wanted the 30 year-old attorney's Range Rover, nothing else.

The lawyer who lived in Hoboken went holiday shopping with his wife.  He opened the car door for her, unloaded the presents, when investigators say he was shot at point blank.

U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said "you shouldn't have to worry that where you go whether it's downtown Newark or to the mall that someone will put a gun to your head and take your car.”

The suspects ditched the Range Rover at a garage on Renner Avenue in Newark.

The city's anti-violence coalition says Newark is a haven for carjackings.

Sharif Amenhotep, Vice Chair Newark Anti-Violence Coalition says, "tTis is a social issue, economic issue, that contributes to the fact that people are desperate to risk their life and freedom and not even get no money."

It's unclear if this incident was part of an organized crime ring.

The Essex County prosecutor's office tells Fox 5 news that there have been 450 car-jackings just this year.

That's up substantially from 422 in 2012 and 277 in 2011.  A special task force was created to stop these kinds of crimes.

All of the suspects are being held at the Essex County correctional facility on $2 million dollars bond each. They could be arraigned as early as Tuesday at the Essex County Courthouse.

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
