Rats found at Atlanta recreation center

Posted: Updated:

Giant rats have been discovered inside a city of Atlanta recreation center visited by dozens of children every day.

The rodents were found at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center on Boulevard NE in downtown Atlanta.  Some were captured and killed by traps around the complex.

Some parents said they learned of the rat problem from their children.

Sources told FOX 5 that the rats have gotten into the second floor, which has a kitchen.

Atlanta Parks Commissioner George Dusenbury said that an exterminator had previously gotten rid of rats before, and were once again taking steps to solve the latest problem. Dusenbury said that the food is brought in each day and then leftovers are disposed of.

Dusenbury said that letters were being hold home to parents informing them of the rat problem on Monday.
