Community rallies around Griffin High QB after burglary

Posted: Updated:

A community in Spalding County is coming together to help a star high school football players whose home was hit by burglars. The theft happened as Griffin High School quarterback Jasquez Parks helped lead his team to a state championship on Saturday night.

One of the happiest nights in the 18-year-old's life turned ugly when he and his mother returned home to find it had been burglarized.

"In your home, you know, you don't know how to sleep," said Cassandra Parks.

Jasquez Parks said thieves stole numerous items, including an iPad, TV, game system, money clothes and even the Christmas presents under the tree.

Since the burglary, the community has rallied around the Parks family.

"It just cheers me up and makes me feel good because the community is behind me because I worked really hard to bring home the state championship for everybody," Parks said. "It makes me happy that they have my back and they are trying to get me everything that I have."

Griffin High School Touchdown Club President Douglas White said that more than $4,000 has already been raised, including from people in Florida, South Carolina and Arizona. The local Walmart manager in Griffin has also pledged to help Parks.

No arrests have been made in the thefts.
